Sammlung: Vintage Rugs

Diese einzigartigen Vintage Berberteppiche, darunter Beni Ourain, Azilal, Boucherouite, Ait Sgougou, Ait Ouararda, Beni M´tir und Boujad Teppiche, stammen aus der Sammlung Adam, die im Jahr 2013/2014 in der Pinakothek der Moderne in München unter dem Titel "Marokkanische Teppiche und die Kunst der Moderne" in Teilen gezeigt wurde.

Marokkanische Teppiche faszinierten im frühen 20. Jahrhundert Künstler wie Wassily Kandinski und Le Corbusier und lassen uns heute an Mark Rothko oder Cy Twombly denken. Die Auseinandersetzung mit der islamisch geprägten Kultur Nordafrikas und den Teppichen aus Marokko führt somit zu den Wurzeln für die Kunst der europäischen Avantgarde. Das islamische Verbot figurativer Darstellungen führte bei den Berbern im Maghreb zu radikaler Abstraktion und einem völlig freien, modern anmutenden Umgang mit Farben und Formen. 
Die Ausstellung konzentriert sich auf die Sammlung Adam. Über Jahrzehnte in Marokko selbst zusammengetragen, handelt es sich um eine der weltweit bedeutendsten Privatsammlungen marokkanischer Nomadenteppiche. Gerade in der Pinakothek der Moderne kann das Thema in besonders eindrücklicher Weise auch die inneren Zusammenhänge zwischen den Kunstgattungen aufzeigen, die die Basis für die Konzeption dieses weltweit einzigartigen, Disziplinen übergreifenden Hauses bilden.

These unique vintage Berber rugs, thereunder Beni Ourain, Azilal, Boucherouite, Ait Sgougou, Ait Ouararda, Beni M´tir and Boujad rugs, are part of the Adam Collection, which was shown in 2013/2014 at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich under the title "Moroccan Carpets and Modern Art".
Moroccan carpets fascinated artists such as Wassily Kandinski and Le Corbusier in the early 20th century and today make us think of Mark Rothko or Cy Twombly. The confrontation with the Islamic culture of North Africa and the carpets from Morocco thus leads to the roots of the European avant-garde. The Islamic interdiction of figurative representations led the Berbers in the Maghreb to radical abstraction and a completely free, modern approach to colours and forms.
The exhibition focuses on the Adam Collection. Collected over decades in Morocco itself, it is one of the world's most important private collections of Moroccan nomadic carpets. Particularly in the Pinakothek der Moderne, the theme can impressively demonstrate the inner connections between the art genres that form the base for the conception of this globally unique, interdisciplinary institution. (Text: Exhibition catalogue, Pinakothek der Moderne Munich)
